RN- Inpatient Surgery

As a Registered Nurse with Lifemark Health – Canadian Surgery Solutions you are responsible and accountable for providing direct patient care using the nursing process throughout the assessment, planning, implementation, and on going evaluation of patient needs. The RN will act in accordance to CARNA standards and scope of practice pertaining to the pre and post surgical patient and in accordance with facility policy and procedure. Th RN must possess the skills, knowledge, and experience to assess, treat and teach patients undergoing and recovering from a wide variety of surgical procedures. The RN must be able to assess and monitor patient’s physical, psychological and psychosocial needs. The RN must demonstrate a professional and caring approach in dealing with patients, co-workers and supervisors
Possesses critical thinking and assessment skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing appropriate assessments and monitoring of the pre and post operative patient, including but not limited to:
    • Medications
    • IV therapy
    • Oxygen therapy
    • Pre and post operative teaching specific to surgical intervention
    • Rehabilitation teaching specific to surgical intervention
    • Physiotherapy and other therapeutic interventions
    • Wound care
    • Vital sign monitoring and recognition of the need for intervention
    • Resuscitation, defibrillation and response to anaphylaxis and other emergent situations
  • Maintaining current knowledge of changes or updates in technology and techniques.
  • Utilizing all data to formulate individualized care and discharge plans.
  • Setting priorities in planning care and implementing the medical treatment plan as determined by the physician and according to individual patient needs.
  • Reassessing and evaluating interventions and adjusting as necessary to assist patients in reaching goals prior to discharge.
  • Assisting in patient care and supervising PCAs and LPNs
  • Recognizing and anticipating safety issues related to patient and staff; implementing appropriate measures
  • Assisting in orientation of new staff to the unit
  • Functioning as a team member, maintaining open communication between all members of the team.

Qualifications

FORMAL EDUCATION

  • Graduate of a recognized Nursing Program
  • Current CARNA registration

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years current surgical nursing experience
  • current acute care nursing experience in orthopaedics an asset
